Case History #15 Repair of Distal Humerus Non-Union

Repair of Distal Humerus Non-Union

Patient: Bill

Pre-Op: Bill injured his right elbow a few years back. He had a distal humerus fracture that was repaired by other doctors. The fracture did not heal despite several operations. He came to us with a painful nonunion, instability of the arm, and broken internal hardware.

Post-Op: We repaired the nonunion, removed the internal hardware, and applied an Ilizarov/ Taylor Spatial frame to stabilize and compress the nonunion.

Post-Op: Bill wore the frame for 4 months while the bone healed. During this time, exercise and activity were encouraged.

Follow Up: After frame removal, the bone was completely healed.

Follow Up: Bill has been able to resume his active lifestyle.
