Doctor: S. Robert Rozbruch
Patient: Marcelle
55 y/o woman had a tibia fracture. Other doctors used a rod but the bone did not heal and the rod broke. A large 10 cm segment of bone was infected and dead and required removal.
As an alternative to amputation, bone transport from both end of the tibia was started (Trifocal technique) to regenerate the large missing segment of tibia bone. Gradually, the bone defect is filled with regenerated bone. The tibia is healed (2 lengthening and 1 docking sites) after reinsertion of an intramedullary nail.
