Complex tibia fracture in a child
Doctor: S. Robert Rozbruch
Patient: Tzvi
Pre-Op: Tzvi is a 14 year-old boy who was in a high-energy ski accident. He fractured his tibia and developed compartment syndrome that required an emergency faciotomy.
Post-Op: We treated him by reducing and stabilizing the fracture with an Ilizarov Taylor Spatial Frame. Correction of all deformity was accomplished without any surgical incision.
Follow Up: Full weight-bearing was encouraged immediately, and within six weeks of the surgery, he was becoming quite active.
The frame was removed 3 months after surgery with complete healing and no deformity.
