
S. Robert Rozbruch, M.D.

After graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania, he attended Weill Medical College of Cornell University from which he graduated with honors in research. Residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery was followed by two fellowships. He did specialized training in Trauma as an AO fellow at the University of Bern in Switzerland. Additional training in adult and pediactric limb lengthening followed at the Maryland Center for Limb Lengthening & Reconstruction.
Dr. Rozbruch is the Director of the Institute for Limb Lengthening & Reconstruction, Chief of the Limb Lengthening amd Deformity Service, and member of the Orthopedic Trauma Service at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He is an Associate Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He is a member of several national medical societies including fellowship in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and ASAMI - The Limb Lengthening & Reconstruction Society. He has presented his clinical and research works at national medical meetings and has authored numerous articles in medical journals and chapters in Orthopaedic textbooks.

Austin T. Fragomen, M.D.
|
Dr. Austin Fragomen attended medical school at the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine. He excelled through a very hands-on surgical internship at Montefiore and Jacobi medical centers in the Bronx. He launched into his orthopaedic residency training program, under John R. Denton, MD, at the Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center. As chief resident he took a strong interest in fracture care, limb reconstruction, and joint preservation surgery. He then relocated to San Francisco, California to dedicate himself to learning advanced techniques in surgery the of shoulder and knee with pioneer and innovator Eugene M. Wolf, MD. He returned to New York's Hospital for Special Surgery to become their first fellow in Limb Lengthening & Reconstruction Surgery. As an Assistant Attending, he is the newest member of the Hospital's Limb Lengthening & Deformity Service. He has presented his clinical and biomechanical research at medical meetings and has authored and edited articles for various Orthopaedic journals and textbooks. He has lectured extensively on related topics to residency training programs and in the community setting.
Skilled in the art of less invasive surgery, Dr. Fragomen will perform a sophisticated and comprehensive analysis of each patient to determine an optimal treatment plan. Whether performing an all-arthroscopic rotator cuff repair or mounting a percutaneous external fixation frame the goal is always to minimize the trauma of surgery and maximize a rapid and functional recovery.

Dustin Quig, PA-C
|
Dustin Quig, PA-C is physician assistant to Dr. S. Robert Rozbruch on the
Limb Lengthening Service. He attended Penn State University where he
graduated with Honors earning a degree in Kinesiology. Following
graduation, Dustin attended the Cornell University Physician Assistant
program. While at Cornell, Dustin had a strong desire to pursue Orthopedics
completing an elective rotation at the Hospital for Special Surgery and
writing his senior thesis on hip replacement surgery. After graduation
Dustin joined the HSS Limb Lengthening team. In his spare time Dustin
enjoys playing guitar, participating in both baseball and football, and
exploring New York City.

Lisa Halfen, PA-C |
Lisa Halfen, PA-C, ATC is a physician assistant on the Limb Lengthening Service. She attended Mercy College where she earned a Master’s degree in physician assistant studies. Prior to attending PA school, Lisa worked as an athletic trainer at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Jericho High School. She earned a Master’s degree in athletic training at Indiana University, and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training at The University of Michigan. With her background in athletic training, orthopedics was the area of medicine that interested Lisa most when she was in PA school. After graduating from PA school, Lisa began working at HSS, and is proud to be a part of the limb lengthening team.

Norma Quicho RN Nurse |
Norma Quicho is the RN Nurse at the Institute of Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction at HSS. Norma comes from Manila Philippines in which she earned a BS in Nursing. Following her graduation, in 1976, Norma worked as a corporate nurse at the “Silahis International Hotel” for a number of years.
With much experience and passion, Norma moved abroad to Riyadh Saudi Arabia as the Head Nurse at the Post C-Section at “Maternity and Children’s Hospital” in which she worked for eight years. To join her parents, Norma decided to move to the U.S. in 1988 in which she was hired as a Cardio Vascular Nurse at Linardos Medical Center in Queens. After working there for eight years, she joined the Hospital for Special Surgery, which she remained devoted to for over ten years and transferred to Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Department for the past seven years.

Erica Lenihan
RN Nurse |
Erica Lenihan, RN is the Nurse Clinician for the Limb Lengthening and Complex Reconstruction Service (LLCRS) working with Dr’s Rozbruch and Fragomen. She began working at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) upon graduating from Dominican College with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She transitioned to the LLCRS after working on the Adult and Pediatric in patient floor at HSS for six years. Her interest and dedication to Limb Lengthening patients gives her the desire to improve and enhance their experiences whenever possible.

Omaira Dean Office Manager for Dr. Rozbruch |
Omaira Dean is the Office Manager in the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction. Ms. Dean attended NYCT in Brooklyn NY. She began working at HSS in 1998 and joined Dr. Rozbruch at the Limb Lengthening and Complex Reconstruction Service (LLCRS) in 2001. As the institute manager, she is an essential member of our team.

Rosa Mora Medical Secretary for Dr. Rozbruch |
Rosa Mora is the medical secretary for Dr. Rozbruch’s team at the Limb Lengthening and Complex Reconstruction Service. Rosa attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice with liberal arts major. She then transferred to Hostos Community College to continue her education in liberal arts. She joined LLCRS in July of 2008 and has remained devoted to providing excellent service ever since.

Earline B. Marchan Office Manager for Dr. Fragomen |
Earline Marchan is the office manager for the Institute of Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction at HSS. Earline hailed from the tropical island of Trinidad and Tobago, where she graduated from Diego Martin Senior Secondary School with qualifications in business studies. After arriving to the U.S. in 1987, she started doing administrative work with a nephrologist and has stayed in the medical field since then. In 2000, she joined the hospital for special surgery and was put to work with the physiatry department, where she met Dr. Rozbruch who admired her personality and invited her to join the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction team. In 2002, she started with Svetlana Ilizarov MD and now works for Austin T. Fragomen, MD. As a long-standing member of the team, she has proven to be a most valuable employee, and it is a pleasure to work with her.

Kathiria Rodriguez (Kathy) is the Medical Secretary in the Department of Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction. She attended St. John’s University with a business major. She joined Dr. Fragomen in the Limb Lengthening and Complex Reconstruction Service (LLCRS) in 2007. She plays a significant role in Dr. Fragomen’s practice.

N. Brian Flowers,
MD: Fellow 2011-2012

Dr. Brian Flowers is one of our two Limb Lengthening and Complex Reconstruction Fellows for the 2011-2012 year. He grew up in Huntington Long Island to a Jamaican immigrant family, which raised him to embrace his rich heritage. Before attending medical school, he received his Bachelor’s degree and Masters in Physical Therapy from Howard University. After sometime as a physical therapist, Dr. Flowers continued his education at Howard University, by attending medical school there. Upon graduation, he completed his residency at New York Medical College studying under Dr. John Denton. After his time at HSS, he looks forward to moving to Texas with his wife Sonya and their two children to practice complex reconstructive surgery. Dr. Flowers is currently researching the role of gastrocnemius recessions during tibial lengthenings.

Raul Kuchinad
MD: Fellow 2011-2012 |
Dr. Raul Kuchinad is one of our two Limb Lengthening and Complex Reconstruction Fellows for the 2011-2012 year. Originally from Canada, he graduated medical school from Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario and completed his Orthopaedic surgery residency in Calgary Alberta. After he completed his surgical residency, Dr. Kuchinad pursued an arthroplasty fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. Among his other accomplishments, Dr. Kuchinad is also a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. His future aspirations are to be an academic lower extremity reconstruction surgeon upon returning home to Canada. Dr. Kuchinad is currently working on research in regards to knee fusions after failed total knee replacements and hip arthroplasties with massive leg length discrepancy. Outside of medicine, Dr. Kuchinad enjoys skiing, hiking and traveling.

Eugene W. Borst

Eugene W. Borst began his time at the Limb Lengthening and Complex Reconstruction Service in the summer of 2008 as an HSS volunteer working closely with Dr. Fragomen on several research projects which include a comprehensive study of a hundred ankle fusion surgeries and a summer working in the hospital’s Biomechanics Department assisting in a motion capture study. Through his hard work and dedication he won the hospital’s Mary Ryan Student Award which is given to only two student volunteers each year. He graduated with honors in history from CUNY Hunter College in the spring of 2010 and is currently back at Hunter part time taking science courses in preparation for medical school. Now he has become the department’s research coordinator and looks forward to continuing his education and work on many great research projects. Gene hopes to continue to follow his passion and attend medical school in the near future.
